Blue reef sushi... Lexington ky

This is a no frills place.  You order at a counter and it's brought to you. Or seems a lot do take out.
Something said to not get the miso soup. Dad said it "was horrible". I got the gyoza. Not impressed.  It was luke warm and probably out of a bag.
The sushi was amazing.  Very fresh.  We got the cucumber roll, a couple sweet egg sashimi and blue reef roll. All great and fresh.
The place has very good prices.
Only decent photo. This place is small.

Planet thai

Went last week with dad. Was his first time eating thai food. He loved it. I got the yellow curry with shrimp. Honestly I got it due to potatoes being in it.  I get weird cravings.  staff friendly enough.

Masala restaurant

We tried masala restaurant at crave lexington festival.  Dad and I went in today for the lunch buffet.  delicious food.  The service...... doubt anyone working smiled. Didn't even attempt to take photos.

I have grown a weird hatred for chain restaurants. I can't be alone on this. We started awhile back where we find a different mom and pop place every week. Got some catching up on here.

cooking shows

Does anyone know of any cooking shows that actually do episodes on food allergies?

I watch food shows a lot. But, will have to try to remake it dairy free. Often it's soupy or just wrong tasting. I know there are many internet sites with recipes. Trust me..... I've found them. Lots of them.
Would just like to see a show about allergies that isn't about peanuts and wheat. Seems only ones they seem to recognize.

i miss....

There are a lot of foods I could care less about not being able to have. I'm not a sweets eater. but, I have yet to find a cheese that melts. If it does, often it's gritty. So, things like pizza and quesadillas always end up tasting funny. my biggest "miss" food is Mac and cheese. I know you can add butternut squash to male it creamy. But, it's my not the same.

mild rant

have you ever noticed that it's almost punishment monetarily to have certain allergies or choices in diet?

seriously...

you can get glutton free almost anything for the same price as the regular stuff?

-----example-----

**glutton free mac and cheese $1.25.
    regular mac and cheese $1.25
**dairy free ice cream (almond milk, soy, rice milk, etc) pint $6.49.
1/2 gallon milk ice cream $4.59

just my luck

start taking photos with my phone and it dies. kaput.

odd twist

When I moved here it was to help my parents and get help with the boys. That way work/travel isn't an issue.  Fair trade really.

The food dept was the fight. My father is pretty mellow and tries most anything. His problem was he hates to cook/eat alone. Not many people do.
My mother is another story. Hated most anything healthy other than dried food. I'm good at patrolling my diabetes. But, the milk allergy is another story.you have 3 choices:
1. Trust that there isn't dairy.
2. Make everything yourself.
3. Everything will be dry.

They've learned the milk allergy is not a joke.... the hard way.

So, here's the twist. Last week, I had to take punk and my mother to the Dr. Knew they'd send her to er. So, we went there instead. Fun drive: 2 sick people and I'd had to call off work anyway due to ice. Punk couldn't go back for 2 days. So, I used 2 of the many personal days I never use.
I take D to school the next day. Get back home and am told that mom needs to go back to the er.
The previous day, they never questioned that she could have k stones or diabetes. Like out of control diabetes.

So, life has changed here. In a good way. Though, it is weird having to explain from square 1 about the diet/lifestyle.

bubble tea

i tried my hand at making bubble tea. it seemed simple enough.

1/2 strong iced tea
1/2 milk (we used vanilla soy milk)
ice
sweetener of your choice to taste
cooked tapioca pearls

everything was great BUT i think the tapioca wasn't right. the bag had no english on it. so, i looked online and followed that.

any help?

it was a hit otherwise.

no joke

Please do not make my food allergy into a joke. I don't find it amusing. Nor do I like having food shoved in my face with the "yum. Don't you wish you could have this?" Haha deal. I'm a grown woman. And, I'm stuck with this. it wasn't a choice.

it seems the older i get the worse my allergy gets. I've had 2 major attacks in the past month. definitely not something i need. it seems they find different ways to list it in the ingredients.

finding foods

I've lived in Lexington for about 2 months now. while this is a largish town, it's definitely not Orlando/Kissimmee. finding vegan/dairy free foods are very hard. the whole foods is about 1/3  the size of the ones in Orlando and a lot more expensive. the super Kroger has a section for special diets. but, it's mostly just organic. makes finding foods a hunt. not bad. just interesting. at least, I'm pretty much downtown.
